The New York Times featured a great article this past Saturday (1/3/09) questioning the future of design given our current economic state. When times were good and wealth was plenty, artists could demand higher costs for their luxury items. However, according to The NYT, design tends to thrive during economic hardships. Designers are forced to use less flashy materials and focus more on sustainable goods that are readily available. The future may hold less design, but overall we will be seeing better design. |

The 2008 International Pool, Spa and Patio Expo was held in Las Vegas this week at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center. I was fortunate enough to walk the show and preview some new products in this industry and meet with a few distributors, manufacturers and members of the press.
